FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: MICROBLADING
Are you certified?
Yes! I am a certified permanent makeup artist and insured. I completed a hands on apprenticeship and received certification from a permanent makeup and tattoo artist that has perfected only the best Microblading techniques and training, as well as other types of eyebrow permanent makeup. My studio is licensed to tattoo by the local Board of Health. I received extensive training and certification in Blood Borne Pathogens as deemed necessary for tattoo artists by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. It’s crucial that you choose not only a certified Microblading artist, but also a licensed one to ensure your health is protected!
Do I need to shave my hair?
No! We will shape your eyebrows as needed with threading and/or tweezing and choose a color pigment that blends seamlessly with your natural brows.
How is this different than a traditional eyebrow tattoo?
The most common type of traditional eyebrow tattoos involves the use of a tattoo gun and a block style brow, which leaves the client with a dark outlined eyebrow and no depth. These often fade to really unflattering colors. Microblading by The Beauty Room leaves the client with crisp, thin lines that look identical to REAL HAIR. Careful selection of pigment is chosen to give depth and shape so that the natural brows and Microbladed strokes blend seamlessly.
Does it hurt?
Every client is different and pain tolerance varies by client. Most clients describe the pain level as minimal and find tweezing and threading more uncomfortable. At The Beauty Room I use the best topical lidocaine cream available to minimize discomfort. I will take my time getting you nice and numb for about 30-45 minutes. That being said, this is a still a tattoo. You will feel some discomfort. Based on my personal experience, I would describe the feeling a slight burning, astringent like sensation. Very tolerable and worth it!
How long does it take?
The process takes approximately two and a half to three hours from the moment you walk in the door to completion of your beautiful new brows. The first hour or so is spent designing your new brows and numbing the area. There is no downtime! Occasionally, some clients will have some slight redness and swelling around the area which is very normal and will subside within a couple hours. Most clients go on about their normal day when they leave their appointment.
What is the healing process?
Some swelling and tenderness after the procedure is normal and may last a day or so, depending on the client. Your new brows will appear DARKER, WIDER, AND SHARPER than the way they will heal. This is especially true for days 2-5. This is harder for some clients than others. Clients who rarely wear makeup may find that they don't like how their brows look on these days because they are too intense. That's normal! The pigment is sitting on top of the skin and has not yet settled into your face. As your skin heals over the tattoo, your brows with lighten and soften. This process takes about 10 days or so on average. Your brows will be dry and may scab a bit – it’s important that you’re prepared to go through this process BEFORE booking! It’s important to follow all after care instructions and to attend the required follow up appointment to make the finishing touches to your new brows! Your healing is only about 50% in my control. Once you leave it's up to you to be diligent about following the instructions you're given to get the best result! And no matter how great they look, it's important to come for your touch up appointment to get the final result.
How long does it last?
This will vary by client. If aftercare instructions are followed diligently, your new brows will last approximately 18-24 months. For some people, their brows will last even longer. Certain factors such as sun exposure, getting chemical peels, oily skin type, etc. will affect whether your brows will last on the higher or lower end of the expected months. There is no way for us to predict how long your brows will last or how they will heal with this procedure, since so much of it depends on skin type and lifestyle. Also, some clients really prefer a fresh, bright look. Those clients opt to come in for Color Boosts every 12 months instead of waiting for their brows to completely fade.
Are there some clients who cannot retain the pigment?
Yes this does happen. Some people have highly effective immune systems that reject the pigment, some have super oily skin, and some just have highly effect skin healing. It's rare, but it's important that all clients understand this is a possibility and in most cases there is no way for us to know if this will take place prior to the work being done. Occasionally, I will recommend a third appointment to further touch the brows up if the client is retaining some pigment after the first touch up, however anything beyond that would likely be too much for the skin and the client would likely not be a candidate for further Microblading.
Will it look natural?
Absolutely! The technique used at The Beauty Room creates realistic, simulated hair strokes that look just like REAL HAIR! It’s important you choose the right artist that can give you this realistic 3D look. Your brows can be as big and bold or as soft and subtle as you like!
Who is a good candidate?
The simple answer is, anyone that wants to have full, beautiful brows all day, every day,! That would include busy parents or business people who don’t have much time to apply brow make up, active people who don’t want to worry about sweating off makeup while working out or swimming, or any person who struggles with getting that perfect shape that the celebrities and YouTube makeup artists always seem to have. Other clients include those suffering from scarring, Trichotillomania, Alopecia and Cancer, or other diseases and disorders that have led to natural hair loss. Let The Beauty Room do all the work for you!
Who is NOT a good candidate?
Allergy to Nickel (blade)
Taking blood thinners
Skin irritations near the area such as sunburn or Psoriasis
Taking sun sensitizing medications
Botox within last 2 weeks
Accutane within last year
History of keloid scarring
Auto-immune deficiencies
People suffering from severe acne

How do I prepare for my appointment?
Microblading Before and After-Care Instructions – PLEASE READ
Before your appointment:
•Avoid alcohol, caffeine, Aspirin or Ibuprofen for 24 hours before the procedure
•Because Botox can alter the position of your brows, it should be performed no later than at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment. This is because Botox can alter the position of your brows.
•Thoroughly read all the forms given to you at the time of your appointment and ask any questions you may have.
•Be sure to advise me of any allergies, medical conditions, and prescriptions you take prior to your appointment.
After-care - It usually takes between 7-10 days for the skin to heal. While your skin is healing these After Care Instructions are recommended:
•Avoid contact with the eyebrows for 3 hours after the procedure.
•3 hours after the procedure, you may gently wash your brows with clean hands, warm water and mild soap. DO NOT RUB HARD. You can let them air dry.
•Apply a THIN layer of your aftercare balm 3 times a day for the next 3 days. If the skin is still very dry, then the aftercare balm can be used up to 10 days after the procedure.
•Stay out of direct sunlight and tanning booths until your tattoo is healed. You can go outside of course! I just suggest avoiding laying out at the pool or a beach until your brows are healed. If you are going to the beach or pool wear a hat that shields your brows from the sun until you're healed, like a visor or baseball cap.
•Do not soak your brows in water (ex. bath tub, sauna, pool, or hot tub). When washing your face, wash around the brow area. Showers are fine.
•Do not rub or pick at your brows. This can cause scarring, blurring, and/or infection. Should there be any scabbing, let them fall off naturally.
•Avoid facials, chemical treatments, Botox, etc. for 2 weeks.
• Do not allow makeup, lotions, or other products to come in contact with the treated area for 10 days.
•Your skin should be healed by 2 weeks at the latest. Consult a physician if you have ANY signs of infection, which could include redness in the brow area (aside from the first few hours after your appointment), green or yellow discharge, and/or fever.
•Should you have any questions or concerns, please call me at 862-354-3603.
Long-term After-care - After your skin has healed
•Inform your technician of your semi-permanent brows at the time of any laser procedures or MRIs. Our pigments are MRI safe, this is just a precaution.
•Always use a good sunscreen to protect your brows from fading caused by sun exposure. Extreme sun exposure can and will fade your pigment. This can be minimized by applying a good sunscreen of at least SPF25.
•Be aware that the use of chemical peels in the forehead region can expedite the fading of your semi-permanent brows.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: EYELASH EXTENSIONS
What Are Eyelash Extensions?Eyelash extension is an advanced technique that lengthens and thickens eyelashes. They are single strands of lashes that are curved to replicate a natural eyelash. We use only quality extensions in faux mink and silk. You will feel the difference.
How will they look and feel? When applied by our skilled technicians they will look completely natural, only much longer and fuller. They will feel like your own eyelashes. We do not count lashes, we will add as many or as few as needed to create the right look for you.
How long will my initial appointment take?We take an artisan approach with our customers and will not rush your appointment. You can expect your first appointment to take approximately 1.5 hours. Unlike some salons we do not count eyelashes, a full set is a full set. We will use as many as are needed to create the right look for you. If you are happy, then we are happy.
How long will my Eyelash Extensions Last? When properly applied and cared for, your eyelash extensions will last for three to four weeks. Most clients get fills every two weeks to maintain a full appearance. Please see the aftercare section on how to properly care for your eyelash extensions to maximize longevity.
What is a fill and how often should I get one? After your initial set of eyelash extensions you will receive instructions on how to care for them. Fills are done every two to three weeks depending on care and how quickly your eyelashes grow. An eyelash extension fill take a shorter time to do and the prices reflect that.
Why do I lose some of my eyelashes?Due to the natural growth cycle of your lashes you will find your natural eyelashes shed every 60-90 days as new ones grows in. We recommend getting a fill every two to three weeks to fill in lashes on the new growth.
Will extensions damage my eyelashes?Yes and no. Yes, your lashes can be damaged if you go to someone who was not properly trained and uses cheap products not intended for long wear. No, extensions properly applied by a certified, trained technician who uses quality products should not. Our eyelash extension application techniques and innovative aftercare ensures your lash health.
A friend of mine is allergic to the products, is this common? True allergic reactions do happen, but are rare. If you have developed an allergic reaction you may still wear extensions with some changes made to the aftercare process. What is more common is eye infection due to improperly washing and caring for your lashes. Waiting 24 hours to wash lashes and not washing your eyelashes after the entire time you wear them are the most common causes of infections. Imagine not washing the head on your hair for weeks or months. This is the most common reason wearers lose their lashes prematurely.
Can I use eyelash growth products with my extensions? Lash growth products that contain steroids change the composition of your lashes and accelerate your eyelash shedding cycle, therefore we cannot guarantee the outcome. Natural lash growth products containing peptides are wonderful and will have no adverse effect on the longevity of your extensions.
Will I still need to use mascara? No, you will not need to use mascara with your lash extensions, but for nights that you want extra drama you can use a water-based mascara. See the aftercare section below for tips on using mascara.
After CareNow that you have lush lashes take note of these tips to maintain them. With proper care and fills your eyelashes can last indefinitely.

After CareNow that you have lush lashes take note of these tips to maintain them. With proper care and fills your eyelashes can last indefinitely.
- Do not get your eyelashes wet for the first 24-48 hours.
- Do not use a spa, sauna or pool for the first 24 hours. The extensions need that amount of time to properly bond.
- Avoid pulling or rubbing your eyes.
- Do not use eyelash curlers with your extensions. With proper application you will not need them.
- ONLY use oil-free makeup remover. We carry several brands in our studio and also provide clients with a do-it-yourself eyelash wash. If your eyelashes are tangled or crossed over, use the Spoolie given to you during your appointment to gently brush them straight and put them in place. You can purchase a longer life coating to extend the wear of your lash extensions in between fills.
- Proper hygiene is very important. Please keep lashes clean by regular washing. We have a special foaming lash bath eyelash cleanser available online or in our salon.
- Use only mascaras that are safe for eyelash extensions, no oil-based or waterproof mascaras. We have extension safe mascaras available for purchase at your appointment, or online. Only apply the mascara to the tips of your lashes.
- After showering avoid rubbing lashes, it best to blot them with a towel and let them air dry.
- You can also dry the lashes by using a hair dryer on the cool setting and blowing them dry from the bottom up. It makes them curlier and fluffy.
- Use care when applying facial and eye creams to avoid the lash line. Too many oil-based products can break down the adhesive.
- We recommend touch-up appointments every two to three weeks to maintain your new eyelash extensions.
